Nari

What

Nari is a menstrual cup sanitizer that uses nanotechnology to filter water. The device is made of standard PVC piping which allows the device to be produced anywhere, creating job opportunities for local communities.

Why

To improve menstrual hygiene and reduce menstrual waste, it is essential that women and girls have access to clean water which is currently a neglected issue in rural India.

How

Using hollow fiber nanotech filtration, Nari’s sanitization helps reduce the rate of infections from cleaning with contaminated water. We partner with menstruation education programs in India to provide the holistic approach necessary to make menstrual cups available to a larger number of women - reducing waste, cost, shame and school attrition in the process.

user journey

Current experience.

First, most women use cloth which ends up leaking and becomes rotten leading to high rates of infection. Second, most girls stay home instead of attending school and women are unable to carry on with life normally. Third, there is shame around buying pads from men who run the stores. In order to tackle these problems, our opportunity lies in creating a hygienic, subtle, low maintenance and sustainable solution.

Product breakdown.

This filter uses Hollow Fibre Filtration technology, which sanitises by forcing water to pass through the narrow gaps between or inside the fiber. It is efficient as the contact area is maximized by the hollow structure of fiber, and also quite economic as it provides a relatively long life span with a low cost. The filter can be used around 850 times, equivalent to 61 periods, which is the same as the life span of a menstrual cup.
